Thanks to everyone who made our year just closed successful and full of promise for the upcoming 12 months. We’ll miss our outgoing Board members, Liesl Morell and Peg Collins – but we hope to see them often at our meetings and events. Our new Board members are Sally Anderson of SOM, and Derek Payne of Kingspan. We look forward to their new ideas and participation in our efforts this year.
Our July meeting brought together over 100 participants from the San Francisco and Santa Clara Valley Chapters, and from DBIA. Partnering with the Design Build Institute of America brought attendees from design, engineering and construction companies, so there were many new faces. The presentation was thought provoking: a case study of the new control tower at the San Francisco international Airport, and a discussion of a progressive approach to design/build delivery that brings owner, end users, designers, and contractors together to develop the project concept and budget collaboratively from the start. The speakers represented a range of perspectives, and the audience was full of questions. Many, many thanks to:
  • Geoffrey Neumayr, Deputy Airport Director of Design & Construction, San Francisco International Airport
  • Judi Mosqueda, Director of Project Management for San Francisco International Airport
  • Scott Bills, Project Manager, Hensel Phelps
  • Bill Andrews, PE, SE, SECB, Principal/Structures, Managing Director, Walter P. Moore
  • Susan Walker, Associate/Architectural Project Manager, Fentress Architects
  • Eric Kisshauer, DBIA

We also want to thank our sponsors who contributed generously to the success of the event in many ways:

  • Hensel Phelps – GOLD Sponsor
  • Redwood Electric Group -  GOLD Sponsor
  • Dunn Edwards – SILVER Sponsor
  • Cupertino Electric – BRONZE Sponsor
  • Walter P Moore - BRONZE Sponsor
  • Moz Metals + Architectural Products - BRONZE Sponsor

A joint meeting with DBIA is a good reflection of our organization’s breadth and openness to new ideas to improve design and construction. We look forward to future shared events!

There will be no general meeting in the month of August.
September and beyond: We look forward to a new meeting venue – to be announced.
