• April Dinner Meeting - San Francisco
The political environment has turned in a new direction. Although the construction industry continues to expand, political influences create some uncertainty in specific areas. For a full understanding of the issues impacting construction, including the new political environment, please join Cliff Brewis, Vice President of Operations with Dodge Data and Analytics (formerly McGraw-Hill Construction/Dodge) for the Dodge Data & Analytics Construction Outlook. Cliff will review how Dodge Data and Analytics expect the various sectors of the industry to behave in the months ahead.

  • Remembering Herman R. Hoyer FCSI, CCS
Our dear friend and long-time member of SF CSI, Herman Hoyer was memorialized on February 17, 2017, after passing in August 2016 at the age of 89. He was an active leader in our Chapter serving many roles as well as president in 1970-71. He joined CSI in 1963 and was an outstanding mentor, educator, leader and inspiration to many members for more than 50 years. In 1972-73 he served with distinction as the Vice President of the Institute, one of the few from the West Region and the San Francisco Chapter.
  • Building Technology Education Program
What's happened to the Building Technology Education Program? Following Bob Johnson's, FCSI & Distinguished Member, initial suggestion for this in June of 2012, there were many encouraging comments on the benefits of this for CSI and for our industry contained in two threads on the 4specs.com discussion forum.  The Institute's task team also issued a positive report on the topic at the Institute convention in 2013.  But since then, the topic seems to have gone dormant.  This is not good.  It's not good for the many architects and spec writers who would benefit from the program and it's not good for the Institute when this program could have beneficial effect on CSI membership.
  • President's Message: March, 2017
Pro-Fair must be the headline this month. What a great event – a fascinating speaker, great turnout, and an inspiring event for all who participated. Many thanks go to Edwin Essary, Pro-Fair Chair for the second year, and his excellent committee. It’s an enormous effort, and a very important one for our Chapter. Speaker Paul Doherty is founder of The Digit Group – early to the BIM revolution and now exploring new technologies that offer enormous potential for energy production and urban integration. If you were not able to attend, you may want to check out The Digit Group website for more inspiration. There’s lots to read, and links to many provocative articles. Smart Cities is a topic that offers an antidote to environmental anxiety.
